Ilithios - "Athens"

Living in the moment is challenging, especially when you find yourself drawn to two distinct places. The desire for change, particularly, the overwhelming urge to remove yourself from your current set of circumstances, is sometimes hard to regulate. Manny Nomikos, the songwriter behind Ilithios, explores this phenomenon on his brand-new single, “Athens,” a gorgeous, catchy song that merges electronic elements with a lush dance-punk aesthetic.

Nomikos describes “Athens” as “an ode to escapism.” He shared, “It's called Athens cause thats’s my home away from home, (well technically a small town called Korydallos but that doesn’t really roll off the tongue). When I'm in Greece, I long for New York, when I'm in New York, I long for Greece.” The lyrics unravel as a first-person narrative, describing the kind of disillusionment that sets in when life seems to go stale. Nomikos shares vocal duties with drummer extraordinaire Rosie Slater, and the rhythmic, electro-fused track moves at a feverish pace. You may want to tap your toes, especially during the infectious and urgent feeling chorus, where Monikos and Slater reflectively sing: “Don't you wanna throw this life away, and move away somewhere. Don't you want to move from people who don't know you? Don’t wait too long, so long you're gone'.”
