Camera Obscura - “Big Love”

Camera Obscura - “Big Love”

I’ve longed for the day when Camera Obscura would return. The Scottish indie pop band took a hiatus following the passing of beloved keyboardist Carey Lander in 2015. A break after such a profound loss is understandable, as navigating the aftermath of losing a member comes with extreme challenges. Camera Obscura has handled it with grace by taking time to heal, though the pandemic caused some additional delays. If you remember, the band played a handful of gigs in 2019, and confirmed in 2020 that they were working on new songs. Four years later, the first song, “Big Love,” is finally seeing the light of day!

The Glaswegian legends return with a little more twang in their arsenal. “Big Love” sounds way more country than anything they’ve ever released, and their venture into new sonic territory sees them shining brightly. They seem comfortable in their new stripes, as frontperson Tracyanne Campbell pines for lost love with confidence and zeal. The track even includes some wailing pedal steel, which definitely adds to the song’s Americana feel.

Stream the track below!

“Big Love” is the lead single from the band’s forthcoming album, Look To The East, Look To The West, which is out on May 3rd vis Merge Records.
