Kilo Tango - "Lottery Ticket"
The project known as Kilo Tango has really been a bedroom project in a pure sense. There’s not a ton of information out there about the project of L.A.-based songwriter Katie Mitchell, but if you’ve been following her closely, you know she’s been consistently putting out dreamy, lo-fi tunes for the better part of the last decade. Mitchell cleaned up her Bandcamp in 2024, compiling a best-of that includes older tracks like the uptempo “Surfer Dream Boy,” which originally appeared on a 2014 cassette release called Bummed Out Suns Out, and newer tunes like the slow-burning “Sunburn.” She’s the kind of songwriter that’s fun to follow, a real diamond in the proverbial rough, and has likely amassed a large catalog of solid tunes. Though you’ll have to stay on top of her Bandcamp to catch them all. Her latest release, “Lottery Ticket,” is no exception.
Kilo Tango’s new single “Lottery Ticket” is the kind of jangly indie rock cut that feels effortless from the first note. The LA duo lock into a crisp guitar groove and never let go, delivering a track that’s equal parts breezy and bittersweet. Lyrically, “Lottery Ticket” leans into themes of chance and longing—the little risks you take knowing the odds aren’t great, but still holding onto that flicker of possibility. Mitchell’s vocals float in easy and conversationally, matching the song’s laid-back momentum, while the instrumentation sparkles with just enough polish to feel refined without losing its charm.
