Fascinations Grand Chorus - "Static Heartbreaks"

We’re in the dog days of summer, which is the perfect time for Fascinations Grand Chorus to release one of their trademark-sounding, warm-weather anthems. They’ve shared some memorable ones in recent years. In the waning days of last summer, the New Jersey duo of Stephanie Cupo and Andrew released their Summer Love EP, which included a bubbly eponymous track, the yearning “Neon Symphony,” and the more forlorn “Summer Is Through.” On Thursday, the band shared a bit of an addendum to that three-song collection in the form of an Effervescent track called “Static Heartbreaks.”

It’s well known that Pierce and Cupo have a fond appreciation for retro aesthetics and the healing, restorative power of the past. On “Static Heartbreak,” that not only comes in through their sound, but in the lyrics, too. Singer Stephanie Cupo says, “there’s a feeling that you can tune into music or film and at the same time it tunes into you… If we watch Ghoulies 2 or listen to The Orlons every time we are sad and it makes us happy, that’s very significant.” The duo leans heavily into their well-worn, analog-driven sound on “Static Heartbreaks.” The track envelops listeners in a warm, vintage-pop sound, reminiscent of romanticized retro media—where static and soundwaves feel almost tangible.

In conjunction with the song, FGC also shared a music video. The Super 8–shot music video intersperses retro 1970s television footage with new footage of the duo. Check it out below!

You can purchase “Static Heartbreaks” and the rest of the FGC catalog via Bandcamp. Keep up with the band by following them on Instagram.
