The Star Spangles - "Lips"

The Star Spangles are a legendary New York City group that has been lauded in underground circles for over two decades. They released two notable records chock-full of earwormy tunes in the mid-aughts, before disbanding, and subsequently reuniting in 2015 to play live gigs. But that revitalization hasn’t included any new music until recently, when they shared their first new music in the form of a song called “Lips.”

“Lips” is more of the group’s bread and butter. They’ve drawn influence from the straightforward and memorable songwriting of bands like the Ramones and the New York Dolls. True to those hallmarks, “Lips” is simple, catchy, and evocative, resting on the laurels of a short burst of guitars and striking lyrics that describe certain sensual body parts.
