Superchunk - "Everybody Dies"
“Everybody Dies,” the most recent track from indie rock legends Superchunk, explores loss and aging, an unfortunate inevitability of life. However, as we get older, it seems to make itself known in more profound ways. Though we’re all familiar with death as a concept, it hits harder in real life, no matter the circumstances. Frontman Mac MaCaughan shared this sentiment, citing the losses David Bowie, Prince, Pharoah Sanders, and Tina Turner, in addition to some close friends, as particularly impactful. Musically, the song confronts death with loudness. The track is anchored by an oscillating twin guitar riffs and a super catchy chorus, which describes the paradigm shift when news of a loss hits: “Well I was happy in a world of wishful thinking; And outright lies; But I'm beginning to think; Everybody dies.”
