Kief Shuvel - “Orange Blossom”

Jersey City stoner rock extraordinaires Kief Shuevel are going through changes. Matt Olsson, who appeared on and produced their debut album, Dig, recently joined the project in an official capacity. Their brand new single, “Orange Blossom,” also represents the further evolution of their larger-than-life, ass-kicking sound. Their first release since their debut full-length is a scorcher, and coalesces around riffs brought to the band by guitarist Mike Taddeo. Frontman Pete Egan shared that lyrically, the song delves into the dichotomy of being in the midst of “a hellacious bender” where one “ slid[es] into dangerous territory, but still experiences glimpses of clarity where you’re kind of amused by it all.” Egan also shared the following on the band’s sonic and thematic evolution on “Orange Blossom,” and how that growth will be reflected in upcoming releases:

[‘Orange Blossom’] felt fiercer than some of our previous work, but also bristling with a warm, hopeful energy.  Wanting the vocals to reflect that feeling, I wrote about the depths of a hellacious bender — sliding into dangerous territory, but still experiencing these glimpses of clarity where you’re kind of amused by it all. There’s a nihilism in this character that I wouldn’t exactly endorse, but did want to document.  Several of the new songs tread similar lyrical ground - how much of ourselves do we give over to the world’s unfeeling ways? And given such a dilemma, is it our actions or our intentions that really count.
