The Lemon Twigs - “My Golden Years”

The Lemon Twigs revel in retro glory. Their fourth studio album, Everything Harmony, basked in the warmth of a Rundgren-esque glow with sweetly melodic harmonies and perfect pop arrangements galore. Though they only recently treated listeners to 13 musical gems, they’re back already with a new single titled “My Golden Years,” an addendum of sorts to those baroque compositions.

“My Golden Years” centers on the theme of “making every minute count and living up to your potential,” and true to its essence, it achieves this underlying goal. The song is another pop masterpiece in the duo’s growing catalog, one that has more of a psych-pop bent in the greater context of their recorded output. Here, the brothers D'Addario pair a glowing Lennon-McCarthy-inspired melody with lots of Byrdsian guitar jangle, thus shifting their inspiration gaze back a decade from the ‘70s to the ‘60s.
