Sooner - "Happy Sometimes"

Sooner - "Happy Sometimes"

Brooklyn quartet Sooner are back with a brand new single to add to their discography of blissed-out shoegaze. The song, entitled “Happy Sometimes,”  is the first glimpse at their forthcoming debut album and sees the band honing in on a more pop-oriented sound with less reverb and more jangle.

The sound of “Happy Sometimes” leans more towards the melancholic dream pop of The Sundays and Mazzy Star, as it features some contagiously oscillating guitars and lyrics that capture a similar disillusionment with life.  While the band’s unique style of shoegaze has always stood out for its melodic strength, the song’s clean and wistful sounding guitars give lead singer Fede’s airy and powerful voice more room to shine. Her lyrics describe a journey through sadness, where she attempts to cling to bright moments: “I am happy sometimes. I see, colors so bright, my worries are gone, and I finally sing this sad song” The song does break from the pop mold in the final minute, as the band injects some of their trademark sprawling, stratospheric guitars for a grand finish.

You can stream “Happy Sometimes” on your platform of choice.  The song is also available for purchase via Bandcamp.
