sssiv - “summer vibe 2026”

The Copenhagen based band sssiv coalesces around a desire for unbridled experimentation. Their compositions thrive off the natural back and forth that can only occur when you put three like-minded players in the same rehearsal room and allow them the free range to stretch out and roam. The trio’s sharp instincts bore fruit in the form of their debut extended play, ssssiv 1, and they generally stuck to their tried and true process when crafting the songs that appear on their new release, sssiv 2. But even the most fine-tuned of processes can benefit from a little tinkering - which is exactly what the group did by introducing the outside ear of producer Benedicte Pierleoni. The resulting seven songs span 19 minutes and conjure feelings of immersive bliss and sees them tempering their impulses ever so slightly.

Their second collection of songs kicks off with the dreamy, yet urgent “all the time,” a song seemingly analogous to the deep pull of a daydream. The record then gently meanders into, “summer rain,” the first of two lulling interstitials. The pointed “ask for better” strikes as a direct confrontation, both sonically and lyrical, which carries forward into the more rollicking of the two short instrumentals, “tell me what i want to hear” - which has a distinct, late-era Sonic Youth-vibe to my ears. The trio turns the tempo down a bit on “stopped me,” before plunging into the reverb-drenched closer, “can never fall asleep without you.” It’s a gorgeously somnambulant way to end their second release.

Today, the band is sharing a video for the album’s anchoring track, “summer vibe 2026.” The essence of the song is reflected in its title, as it mixes serene vocal harmonies with languid, hypnotic guitars. Guitarist Sasha Bay Neierdi stitched together clips and images captured by all three members, which include soothing shots of lily pads, expansive landscapes, and overcast skies.
