Dog In A Man Suit - "Any Of The Time"
The Tom Gallows goth alter ego that hosted a series of super fun “Goth & New Wave” vinyl nights at the now-defunct Golden Cicada is making his music video debut today. Yeah, it’s me, but with Robert Smith-like hair, some white makeup, and a smidge of eyeliner. He stars in the brand new video for the Dog In A Man Suit song “Any of the Time,” alongside an obnoxious, yuppier version of myself!
The song itself is an absolute rocker. “Any of the Time,” is moody, catchy, and hits hard in all the right ways. The lyrics center on that gut-punch feeling when a person from your past seems to be thriving while you’re seemingly stuck in neutral. Billie Seeland’s vocals walk a fine line between calling someone out and turning the blame inward, especially on lines like “You're tearing up this town babe / And razing us all down.” It all builds to the anthemic chorus: “I don't know what I'm doing / Any of the time”—which somehow feels like both a breakdown and a breakthrough. Add in gritty, big-sounding guitars and a fiery rhythm section, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a hard-hitting, resonant tune.
The music video, directed by the extraordinary Jen Meller, brings the song’s inner conflict to life with a mix of humor and heart. In the video, I play two versions of myself: one scrappy, “alt,” and territorial, the other polished, “preppy,” and oblivious, slowly taking over the same city spaces. It’s a clever take on gentrification, self-doubt, and trying to hold on to who you are.
