Lukka - “Black Hole Fusion”

Lukka - “Black Hole Fusion”

Today, Brooklyn’s Lukka is sharing a re-imagined version of their 2018 song “Black Hole Fusion” along with a music video. The new song follows the release of two recent songs, “Life’s Like on TV,” and “Apocalypse.” All three tracks originally appeared on the Encounter LP, and were recently re-recorded for Encounter 2, which was released on Bandcamp in September. The project of songwriter Franzi Szymkowiak has origins spanning back to early last decade, and in that time, they’ve developed a catalog of rich experimental psychedelia. With this new take on “Black Hole Fusion,” the outfit add another gem to this stellar body of work.

When compared to the original, this version of “Black Hole Fusion” accentuates some of the track’s most distinguishing moments. Opening with an eerie looping piano, the song quickly settles into a pulsing rhythmic undertone. It’s lean and propulsive, and as the title suggests, Lukka fuses styles and moods. Electronic textures meet psychedelic swirl, definitively mimicking the deep pull of a black hole, which simmers. Layered harmonies and sparse guitars lead into a celestial outro.

The video, which was shot and directed by Jen Meller, is stylized like a silent film - complete with title slides. It follows two individuals around the familiar sights of Coney Island and captures a French film noir aesthetic by combining shadow, style, and subtle surrealism.
