Old Man Of The Woods & yfjesse - “Wednesday”

Old Man Of The Woods (the moniker of Miranda Elliot) and yfjesse (the project of Jesse Gertz) have been itching to collaborate since their mutual appearance on the inaugural Totally Real Records mixtape back in 2021. The contributions of these two PNW-based songwriters to said compilation stood out for their deft artistry, with the soft ethereality of Elliot’s song “8 Glasses” and the playful, airy guitar work and auxiliary percussion of Gertz’s “Painty Paint Pots” serving as personal highlights on lengthy 28-song collection. Sonically, the two tracks also contrasted in a way that with the benefit of hindsight, keen listebers should have picked up on the fact that Elliot and Gertz’s distinct strengths would complement each other well. Thankfully, they came to that realization independently, and recently joined forces to create a gorgeous new song called “Wednesday,” which we’re excited to premiere today on Look At My Records!

For a song that’s named after a notoriously sluggish day of the week, “Wednesday” has some moments that are truly glistening and bright. It’s darkly rhythmic initially, featuring the kind of measured beat and patient synth loops that are perfect for reflective grooving. The song builds steadily to a nice release of harmonic “ohhs” and “ahhs,” which are accompanied by more expansive sounding synthesizers, swelling and pointed percussion, and Elliot’s stunning voice, which acts as it’s guiding light.

The two artists also shared a video for “Wednesday,” which features Elliot dancing in and out of an old TV that’s set in a deep green forest.

Watch it below! The song is out now via Totally Real Records. You can stream in on your platform of choice, including Spotify.
