Lucia Stavros - “Working Stiffs”

Lucia Stavros - “Working Stiffs”

Brooklyn’s Lucia Stavros is no stranger to the city’s eclectic music scene. She’s wowed as the front person of chamber pop outfit Green and Glass and captivated audiences with her awe-inspiring harp playing while performing under the moniker Loosh. Recently, though, she decided to don her given name with the announcement of the forthcoming release of her debut album, Burn You Up. Today, we’re excited to premiere the record’s second single, “Working Stiffs.”

Like “Daydreaming,” the album’s lead single, “Working Stiffs” boasts a lot of gorgeous, attention-grabbing elements. Whether it’s Stavros’ nimble and masterful harp playing, her deeply affecting voice, or the song’s sauntering rhythm, there’s a lot of ear candy to take in all at once. Each stands tall on its own accord, but they’re extremely powerful when weaved together.

As its title alludes to, “Working Stiffs” laments the plight of working artists, particularly, those who sometimes feel pressure to compromise their values. “Because we live in such a materialistic society, artists who reflect values of materialism do well,” Stavros shared. “I'm not that kind of artist and I'm not here to sell you a music product. I'm here to make a statement and be true to my values.” She really hammers this point home at several key moments on “Working Stiffs.” It really resonates in the final, mesmerizing refrain, which features a layer of pointed harmonies that add emphasis as Stavros sings: “Hollow is the ground you stand to make your claim/ Cause you’re breaking humans' downs and harming for your gain/ Keep making that money no matter what the sin/ It’s the last chance before you’re old and you give it all up to the man.”

Burn You Up is set for release on September 26th. You can pre-order the record via Bandcamp. “Working Stiffs” is also available to steam on Spotify. Keep up with Stavros by following her on Instagram.
