Goo - “Realm”

Goo - “Realm”

Brooklyn’s Goo do an excellent job mixing psychedelia with country twang. It’s a combination that’s as old as rock and roll itself, but Goo’s distinct style helps to breathe new life into it. Unlike those who roll and rollick, Goo feeds off of dark atmospheres. Their songs unravel steadily and draw from a moodier set of textures. The resulting creations, like the recently released “Outlaw” and “Other Side,”sound massive and feel mysterious.

Goo builds their own sonic universe on their latest single “Realm,” which we’re excited to premiere today. The downtempo ballad, which starts with frontperson Beck Zegans muttering “to a distant realm” against a delicate, hypnotic guitar riff, lays down its pieces brick by brick. What starts as soft and centered on guitar and voice expands mightily. The instrumentation swells, with horns, lead guitar, and percussion all continuing to swarm and build in intensity.

Stream the track a day early below!

“Realm” is the third single from Goo’s forthcoming second full length, Squid Ink Sky, which is set for release on June 9th. Pre-save the song before it hits streaming platforms tomorrow!

Squid Ink Sky is available for pre-order on limited edition vinyl via Bandcamp. The band will be celebrating the release of the album at Union Pool on June 10th with Pearla and Katie Von Schleicher. Tickets are available via Dice.fm. Keep up with Goo by following them on Instagram.
