Teen Angst - "Kissless Virgin"

Perth, Australia’s Teen Angst return today with “Kissless Virgin,” their second release of 2022. It follows the June release of “Leaving Home,” which was the band’s first new music since sharing their excellent double single, “Let (Pull Through)” b/w “Cheeseburger,” back in 2020. Those two songs were emblematic of the band’s self-described style of lo-fi, anti-social pop, but “Leaving Home” definitely showcased how they’re taking steps to polish their sound, ensuring certain sonic elements are crisper, while still maintaining the requisite amount of guitar fuzz to capture those summer-y feelings of wistful nostalgia. They’re carrying these developments over to “Kissless Virgin,” which we’re excited to premiere today on Look At My Records!

“Kissless Virgin” is the quartet’s first song to feature lead vocals from guitarist Connor Patmore and in addition to that big change, the track also sees Teen Angst adding more texture to their classic Australia-inspired sound. Their delicate and jangly twin guitar interplay is now complemented by a bed of washed-out synthesizers, which helps take the dreaminess of their instrumentation to new heights. The timbre of Patmore’s voice illuminates the song’s lyrical narrative, as his clear and emotive vocals deftly impart feelings of longing for an intimate connection and later on, regret at missing out on it.

“Kissless Virgin” will appear on Teen Angst’s forthcoming debut full-length, Barn Sour, which is out later this year. You can stream their music on Spotify and purchase it on Bandcamp.
