Zack Keim - "Canyon"

Zack Keim - "Canyon"

If you’re looking to indulge in some sunburnt desert-psychedelia this summer, then look no further than “Canyon,” the new single from Pittsburgh songwriter Zack Keim. The seasoned musician is primarily known for his proficiency in penning scuzzy garage rock jams with his band Nox Boys, but under his given name, he allows himself free rein to explore different styles and sounds in what he describes as an effort to reintroduce himself as an artist.

“Canyon” is quite the re-introduction, as it’s swirling, intricate, and transportive. Driven by a melodic chorus, Keim’s skilled and layered guitar playing, and his warm falsetto vocal delivery, the song has a scene setting impact. Matching its title, the melded sonic elements have a real southwest-folk feel, almost as if you can picture Keim strolling down a desolate, sandy highway as he yearns for nights spent amongst the barren wilderness: “Canyon, how I miss those nights.

Canyon, where the water used to hide over your hills. And you held my heart like a dollar bill.” “Canyon” pulls in other sonic tidbits that add to its dusty trail vibe, including a unique, clip-clopping percussive foundation and perfectly placed organ lines.

Keim also shared a picturesque video to go along with the track, which features grainy footage of cowboys and horses rollicking in the desert, in addition to other song-appropriate scenes.

You can also stream “Canyon” on your platform of choice. The song will also appear on a forthcoming 7-inch, which is out later this year via Action Weekend Records.
