Jowe Head - "Louise Bourgeois"

Jowe Head - "Louise Bourgeois"

Today, Look At My Records! is excited to premiere the video for “Louis Bourgeois” by Jowe Head. The song is the lead single from their forthcoming release, Screeches, Scribbles, and Scrawls, a new multi-media project that includes a 13-song album and a 50+ page book of illustrated lyrics, drawings, and writings.

Jowe Head has had a long, distinguished career in the London art punk scene. His involvement spans decades and includes a bevy of bands, including Swell Maps, who he formed with Nikki Sudden in the early 1970s, and the inimitable Television Personalities. In addition, he’s fronted The Palookas, The Househunters, Angel Racing Food, Infernal Contraption, and Eleventh Hour Adventists, among others.

“Louis Bourgeois” is quintessential Jowe Head in its hyper experimentation and abstract sonic palette. He lets his imagination run wild, piecing together short, crescendoing bursts of guitar, his trademark whisper-croon vocals, and rattling percussion. There’s also a stirring call and response kind of vocal interaction with Catherine Gerbrands that’s omnipresent across the song’s three-minute run time, effectively adding another absolutely haunting layer to the fold.

The accompanying video is straight-up nightmare fuel. It prominently features the world’s most feared insect, the spider, in various forms, as it captures and attacks its prey. The video primarily pieces together vintage black and white clips, making it even more horrifying.
