Two Point Oh - "Fading"
What started as a song written by New York City musician Cameron Castan evolved into a full-blown band last year. Castan released the track “Two Point Oh” under his own name in early 2023, but subsequently decided to adopt the moniker as a fleshed-out four-piece with friend and long-time collaborator Henry Heissenbuttel. Two Point Oh hit the ground running the following year with a string of memorable live performances (including one here in Jersey City at Sip Studios last fall) and a strong debut single called “Jackie Smile.” They recently shared a new track called “Fading,” which gives listeners a further glimpse into their captivating sound.
Two Point Oh is a cross-section of sounds, genres, and themes that Castan and Heissenbuttel explored in previous projects, with new added layers. The band has self-described their sound as “the heavy grit of Soundgarden and Alice In Chains with the art-punk edge of early 2000s Brooklyn icons like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Interpol.” True to their word, “Fading” showcases this unique blend of influences, encompassing both ambient and leaden elements. The track feels like it’s drifting in from another dimension—somewhere between a dream and a late-night walk with nowhere in particular to go. It’s moody and atmospheric in all the right ways, with hazy guitars, lush synths, and vocals that sound like they’re echoing out of a memory you’re not quite ready to let go of. But buried deep within its sound is a heaviness that firmly burrows itself within that blend. The track unfolds slowly, never rushing to get anywhere, but still pulling you along with it. There’s a steady pulse that keeps things grounded, even as the rest of the song floats off into the ether. It has an unrelenting, hypnotic quality to it.
The band recently shared a video for “Fading,” which you can watch below. The video was filmed and edited by Aleko Syntelis.
“Fading” appears on the band’s new Smile EP. You can check out the band’s music via Bandcamp or on your streaming platform of choice. Keep up with Two Point Oh by following them on Instagram.
