Maidin - “Better Why”
Jersey City-based Maidin’s new single “Better Why” leans into a cozy, indie folk vibe, and for one of her most quietly affecting songs yet. It’s stripped-down but still lush—acoustic guitar up front, soft layers in the background, and her voice floating gently above it all. The lyrics feel reflective and a little sad, but not in a heavy way. More like she’s turning a moment over in her head, trying to make sense of it, and inviting you to do the same. In drawing influence from artists like Big Thief, Fenne Lily, and Julia Jacklin, Maidin succeeds in crafting a simple, deeply heartfelt, and sonorous tune. “Better Why” is deeply introspective, using natural occurrences in a metaphorical sense to describe absence, longing for change, and new beginnings.
