Blushing - "Seafoam"

Blushing - "Seafoam"

Blushing are a top-tier act in the current crop of shoegaze bands. The Austin-based band, which is made up of married couples Christina and Noe Carmona and Michelle and Jacob Soto, have been at it for the better part of eight years now, gaining more underground notoriety with each release.  For their forthcoming third full-length, Sugarcoat, they appear to be poised for world domination. Well, domination of the world that folks in the “Beyond Shoegaze” Facebook group live in, at least (IYKYK). That’s the world I live in!

“Seafoam” features contributions from ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder, and his guitar theatrics further elevate Blushing’s moody atmospherics. This decidedly darker song boasts some sharper post-punk edges, which unsurprisingly, smoothly fits into the band’s ethereal sonic universe. The vocals, which are a bit more pointed and rancorous, still manage to meld seamlessly with the group’s signature blend of twinkling guitars, throbbing low ends, and propulsive drumming.
