Yo La Tengo - "Aselestine"

Yo La Tengo are on the precipice of entering their fifth decade as a band. Impressively, they’ve never faltered even in the slightest. Fans can argue that some releases have been stronger than others, but it’s tough to single out anything they’ve done as clearly subpar. They’ve been consistent, and as a result, they’ve humbly earned their place as indie rock’s wise elder statesman. The trio has set the template for what it looks like to survive and thrive in independent music.

Perhaps the secret to their success is their restraint. Yo La Tengo has never been the kind of band to churn out records in consecutive years. Rather, they let their songs and ideas marinate, allowing themselves the time necessary to produce a quality, cohesive piece. This time around appears to be no different, as they’ve slowly started sharing tracks that’ll appear on their next LP, This Stupid World. Their latest single, “Aselestine,” is a hazy, somber song led by Georgia Hubley’s saccharine voice. Stream it below.

This Stupid World is set for release on February 10th. You can pre-order it on limited edition blue vinyl via Matador Records. Keep up with the band by following them on Instagram.
