The Dracu-Las - “Fever Dream”

The Dracu-Las - “Fever Dream”

The Dracu-la’s aren’t scary in the least. Their name may directly reference the most well known vampire in history, but unlike him, their music won’t bleed you dry. Instead, the New York City-based quintet is more focused on breathing life into their elastic sound, which is a noir, surf-inspired take on garage rock. Think of them as an east coast foil to current California staples like L.A. Witch and Death Valley Girls.

The lead single from their new EP, “Fever Dream,” sees the band trudging into some dark and hazy corners of the sonic spectrum.  Their fried guitars saunter and swirl, while the production spreads a mysterious, dream-like sheen across its two and a half minute runtime. There’s also a little sugar sprinkled in the choruses in the form of some gorgeous, 60s girl-group sounding harmonies that lets some light shine through those aforementioned darker tinges. Think of it as a garage rock Sour Patch Kid: it’s a perfect mix of sweet and sour.
