Cor De Lux - "Futures"
Cor de Lux shared their excellent debut album, Dream Life, last year and they’re already back with new music. Early in the summer, they dropped “Whose Side,” another gazey gem that’ll appear on their next full length, Media, and last week they shared the album’s second offering, “Futures,” which showcases their further adventures into new sonic territory.
The vocals on “Futures” stand out when contrasted with many of their predecessors on Dream Life, as frontperson Dawn Moraga and Dana Quinn establish an eerie sounding call and response delivery, with the former’s spoken word style acting as a nice counterweight to the latter’s more impassioned crescendos. The track continues to see the North Carolina band develop their unique hybrid of post-punk and dream pop. The guitars are dreamy and laced with a healthy amount of reverb, but the beat and rhythm move quite quickly at times, giving the song a strong sense of urgency.
