TV Star - "Overplayed"

TV Star - "Overplayed"

“Overplayed” is one of two debut singles from Seattle’s TV Star and if you’ve got an itch for retro sounding jangle psych, this tune will definitely scratch it. Coming together in 2020 with an intention to “open their musical third eye,” the relatively new quintet draws influence from psych leaning acts - the kind that place a strong emphasis on solid songcraft in lieu of fuzzy, over the top guitar theatrics. Instead, TV Star works with a series of mostly saccharine sonic elements on “Overplayed.” There’s a bit of twee tenderness that underlies the echoing guitar jangle and the wistful harmonies in the chorus, both which are nice accompaniments to the track’s more melancholic lyrical focus. With words that seem to expound on feeling left behind, the song features some vintage sounding, guitar driven melodies and the perfect amount of reverb, making it sound like a hybrid of R.E.M. and the Jesus and Mary Chain, and a perfect, hazy summer song. This song was definitely made for the long summer afternoons that are on the horizon.

You can purchase “Overplayed” along with “Decide” via Bandcamp. Both songs are also available on Spotify. Keep up with TV Star by following them on Instagram.
