Looms - "Obvious"

Looms - "Obvious"

Sharif Mekawy can do no wrong in my eyes. The frontman of Brooklyn indie rockers Looms is a workhorse and a wonderful songsmith, gigging relentlessly with Looms and a myriad of other projects, and crafting songs that are detailed and textured. Although I did get to see Looms recently here in Jersey City at Harsimus Cemetery, their live performances are something I’ve missed a whole bunch during this bizarre year - but thankfully, they’ve been putting out a bit of new music despite the circumstances. Last week, they shared their second single of the year, “Obvious.”

Mekawy is a disciple of Tweedy, and you can hear the warm and ringing influence of Wilco across their entire catalog. “Obvious” is no exception, as it’s built off of a vast sonic landscape that’s characterized by some lush guitar tones, which go into overdrive in the explosive verses. With a slight Tweedy twang, Mekawy sings about finally coming to the realization that your uncertainty about your feelings for someone else were actually quite clear. In fact, they were obvious. See what I did there??!?!

You can purchase “Obvious” via Bandcamp. The song is also available on all streaming platforms. You can also snag the band’s 2019 full length, The Way Up, on vinyl via Good Eye Records. Keep up with the band by liking them on Facebook and following them on Instagram.
