Cor de Lux - "Nail Biter"

Cor de Lux - "Nail Biter"

Like many of us, Cor de Lux is acutely concerned about the future. Existential dread was a central theme of their last record, Media, and it definitely plays a starring role on their brand new song, “Nail Biter.” It’s a fierce number with lots of tension percolating beneath the surface, which steadily simmers until it boils over.

Though “Nail Biter” was left on the cutting room floor during the recording sessions for Media, its exclusion doesn’t seem to be due to quality. “Nail Biter” is a strong track with energy that captivatingly ebbs and flows. It starts ominously with creeping guitars, a menacing bass line, and tinny percussion thinly coalescing. The song explodes around the one minute mark with a surge in energy as frontperson Dawn Moraga sings “tooth and nails you got enough to fill your sails
Truth from nails you gotta tell the truth now.” Thereafter, things settle down a little bit for a Sonic Youth-esque mixture of muffed vocals and a metallic, clanking guitar tone before exploding again for one final surge.
