Sean Spada - "Taking It Slow"

Sean Spada - "Taking It Slow"

Sean Spada has kept himself busy over the last few years, playing with local staples such as NO ICE, Deathrow Tull, the Bottom Dollars, Unkle Funkle, and Fiona Silver. He’s well known as a valuable contributor to all of these projects, but today, we’re thrilled to premiere his first solo release in several years - a new single called “Taking It Slow" and the eccentric accompanying video.

Though he’s released music under his own name before, “Taking It Slow” is a bit of a rebirth for Spada, as the trippy lounge-inspired tune sounds very different when compared with his previous releases. “Taking It Slow” has a relaxed and palatable vibe that will make you want to kick back with your favorite cocktail, but Spada also adds some zany touches that go along with one of the song’s recurring lines, “We can let it get weird.” The song follows a piano that at times veers off course with off-kilter solos and space-age effects that sound strikingly similar to Quindar tones. Spada further enhances the lounge vibe by adding some bossa nova percussion elements, provided by Drew Schultz of the Four Tops band.

The video, which was conceived of and directed by Joe Wakeman, takes place on a makeshift airplane piloted by a cocktail-sipping Spada. Through a series of semi-supernatural occurrences, some flashing lights, and some coordinated dance moves from the passengers, the plane suddenly travels hundreds of years into the future. As this happens, the lyrics quickly turn from “we’re taking it slow” to “yeah now, you’re rushing. You’re rushing and you’re racing.”

Stream the video below.  Tune in to Sean’s Instagram tonight at 10 pm for a special live performance. And tune in to the Look At My Records Instagram tomorrow at 7 pm for an interview and live performance with Sean!
