Julia Zivic - "Queen Bed"

Julia Zivic - "Queen Bed"

Julia Zivic’s first single in two years, “Queen Bed,” is an affecting foray into how deep feelings of devotion can powerfully triumph over darkness. Her soulful and sultry voice parses through a detailed narrative, describing a mental tug of war where a desire to remain with her significant other is challenged by their candid admission of some demons percolating within. In doing so, she also takes stock of her own feelings, acknowledging her dependence, “but I built you into my life and I wouldn't know what the hell to do without your fussing and fighting,” before delving into her partner’s big reveal: “You said when we talked the dark is always glaring at you. You told me deep inside you wonder if it will ever let you see this through.” Zivic’s kaleidoscopic sound is a slick neo-soul hybrid that incorporates elements of confessional bedroom pop and guitar folk. It’s her voice, though, which makes her storytelling all the more captivating.

Zivic also shared a video to go along with “Queen Bed,” which interposes shots of her emerging from a queen sized bed with shots of her playing her guitar in a dimly lit room with flickering lights. The video, which was directed by Benjamin Lieber, also incorporated pieces of the lyrics, as it transitions to a scene where Zivic is sitting opposite a mysterious figure, who then takes her by the hand and leads her as they closely dance.
