Sunnbrella - "It's Cool"
“It’s Cool,” the new single from London shoegazers Sunnbrella is the antidote for the stressful times we find ourselves currently living through. The song feels like the perfect sonic representation of its title, as it’s laid back and magical, engulfing the listener with euphoric guitar tones that seem explicitly designed to put your mind at ease. It’s blissful chimes ring out from the very beginning before plunging into a cool ocean of washed-out guitars. Though the early stages of the song sound and feel relaxing, it’s definitely not without some grand moments that up the energy levels. Particularly, things explode at the mid-point with the addition of some swirling twin-guitar interplay and dueling vocal harmonics, provided by frontman David Zbirka’s girlfriend Claire Peng. At around the same time, the riffs get a bit thundery, before ultimately reverting back to some soothing harmonies. Recorded partially at home and at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, Zbirka strikes that nice balance between lo-fi and the mortal sin of overproduction. “It’s Cool” doesn’t sound too slick, but at the same time, the vocals retain their brightness and don’t get lost in a sea of reverb or tape hiss.
“It’s Cool” is out now via Permanent Creeps. Stream it on your platform of choice, including Spotify. You can also check out the band on Bandcamp, Facebook, and Instagram.
