Desert Sharks - "Deeper"

Desert Sharks - "Deeper"

A collaboration of epic proportions is happening in the New York City music scene. Two of the scene's most exciting bands, Desert Sharks and A Very Special Episode, are teaming up for a split EP that’s shaping up to be a bonafide classic. Each act gets its own side with two brand new songs, and today, we’re excited to premiere the first offering from Desert Sharks, a mammoth tune called “Deeper.”

As its title suggests, “Deeper” is cavernous and heavy, with low ends colossal enough to rattle the foundation of any building in the five boroughs. The guitars are pounding and bassist Stephanie Gunther’s vocals are spine-tingling, particularly in the choruses, where she shows little restraint in belting out the refrain, “keep digging deeper.”

“Deeper” plays a distinct role in the larger theme that Desert Sharks and A Very Special Episode jointly formulated before commencing the writing and recording process for this special split EP. The two bands pull inspiration from the four elements of air, water, earth, and fire. Quite literally, they drew their alchemical muses from a hat with Desert Sharks focusing on earth (“Deeper”) and water (“Siren Song”), while A Very Special Episode explores the elements of fire (“Smolder”) and air (“Airwaves”).

Today, the band is also sharing a video for “Deeper.” The eerie, Brendan McKnight-directed video, was shot at Brooklyn venue Main Drag earlier this year. It intersperses shots of the band playing their hearts out with a speeding car, bodies on concrete floors, and the band acquiring various weaponry in their pursuit of throwing down. It’s horror-flick-tinged and definitely has some Warriors vibes in the best way.
