Bass Race - “Chasing The Sun”

Los Angeles-based duo Bass Race are back with another smooth and soothing tune from their colorful sonic knapsack, a slinking track called “Chasing The Sun.” The delightfully soulful second single from their forthcoming record, Tender Vittles, is sure to snap you out of that winter funk and have you daydreaming of spring sunshine, at least for a minute or two. Though “chasing” makes its way into the title, there’s nothing rushed or urgent about it. Instead, the song moves at a leisurely and relaxing pace, perfectly mixing Lauren Benack’s tender vocals with a tantalizing rhythm that’ll definitely put you at ease.

Though the harsh midwest weather inspired the title, the lyrics address “chasing creative inspiration,” as the band described to us via e-mail:

We were in Pittsburgh a couple of years ago over Christmas to see my family and we visited our good friend Nice Rec (J. Cole, Mac Miller, J.I.D., Wiz Khalifa) in his studio along with our friends Laura Herrmann and GrandEar. There was a snowstorm and it was freezing. Once we were inside, we started to warm up and Nice Rec played us some beats he had been working on. When we heard the track that would soon become "Chasing the Sun", we all started smiling. The creativity started flowing and within a couple hours, I had recorded all the vocals and Steven laid down some guitars. The gray weather definitely inspired the song title, but the lyrics detail the arduous process of overcoming writer's block and chasing creative inspiration.
